Abstract
When LM was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Blood Transfusion (BT) in January 2020, he predicted future challenges in Transfusion Medicine. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic profoundly affected health systems and the transfusion community, with BT tracking its organizational, scientific, and clinical impacts. Efforts like using convalescent plasma were only partially successful. Over four and a half years, BT published 27 issues with 331 papers, garnering over 1,800 citations. The journal's impact factor rose during the pandemic but later declined. Serelina will assume the Editor-in-Chief role on July 1. The recent SIMTI congress highlighted future research areas, including AI, blood management, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
