Abstract

Anemia is a global problem with an immense gender gap. The postpartum period can be seen as a window of opportunity to treat women of the reproductive age with anemia. Overall, oral iron is recommended for mild to moderate anemia, and intravenous iron for severe anemia. It is crucial with sufficient specialized postpartum follow-up to ensure adequate treatment, to prevent recurrent iron deficiency and maintain health and wellbeing in women of the reproductive age and for future pregnancies.
